Popsicle Stick Number Order

We had some boxes saved up so I decided to use some of them for an activity. This is a fun activity that takes a little bit of prep. I made this activity for my 5 year old and 3 year old, but when they were done with it, my 1 year old had fun sticking the popsicle sticks into the holes.

I made two separate versions for my 3 and 5 year olds. For my 3 year old, I simply had her match alphabet letters from the box to the popsicle sticks. And for my 5 year old, I had her place the missing numbered popsicle sticks into the correct holes. This activity is not only great for numbers or letters but also for fine motor skills!

Here’s how to do it:

Materials:

  • Cardboard box
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Box cutter or knife

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut slits in the cardboard box using a knife or box cutter. I did 20 slits since I was having my 5 year old put numbers 1-20 in order. You may need less slits such as 1-10 if your child is at a different learning level.

Step 2: Put numbers on the top of the popsicle sticks. I put numbers 1-20.

Step 3: Place some of the popsicle sticks into the slits in the correct number order. Leave out some of the popsicle sticks for your child to put in themselves.

Step 4: Have your child place the popsicle sticks into the correct holes!
