Cranberry Structures

Getting back into the school routine can be difficult after a long winter break. I like to ease back into it with exciting activities. Here is one that the children loved! This is a great activity that allows your child to use their creativity and create structures out of only two things: cranberries and toothpicks.

My 3, 5, and 7 year old all had fun doing this activity. My 1 year old even had fun poking the cranberries with toothpicks. My 7 year old built a house while my 5 and 3 year olds built their own made up structures.

Remember that children are learning even while they are playing. Building toys are especially great for children because they are using critical thinking, problem solving, planning, and engineering. These are all tools that children need to become more independent. You can give your child ideas on what to build if they need it such a house, castle, letters, shapes, or even their name!

Here’s how to do it:

Supplies:

  • A bag of cranberries
  • Toothpicks

Step 2: Let your child build anything that they want! If they need ideas you can print pictures of buildings such as a castle, house, or the Eiffel Tower. You can also have them make shapes or letters.
